The inn takes its name from a fascinating local legend dating back to 1790. According to village folklore, two men known as Sturdy and Castle became locked in battle over this very spot. While the details have long been lost to history, the tale endured, passed down through the generations and giving this historic inn its distinctive name.
Today, guests can enjoy the charm of a beautifully preserved coaching inn, complete with exposed stone walls, characterful wooden beams, and roaring open fireplaces, all part of the quintessential British country pub experience, with dishes crafted by our resident Michelin Bib Gourmand-winning chef.
